i recently shot off an e-mail to suggestions@google.com with an inquiry about a potential google instant messaging service. yahoo prompted me to do this because, quite frankly, they suck. i use trillian, a program that takes all the im services and combines them into one easy-to-use package. i don’t think yahoo likes that scenario very much because they can’t spam the shit out of you with ads like they do on their im program. it makes sense since they are allowing people to freely use their service and when people use trillian or other third-party programs to access their im service, they aren’t getting any money from it. to that, i say tough beans, man. i don’t have to use your service and i would prefer not to anyway. so, here is the message i sent google. it’s ‘unabridged’ which i’m not sure what that means but basically i didn’t change anything.

I’ve been an avid user of Google for a long time and I like the new Gmail, but what I really want to know is where is GIM (Google Instant Messaging)? AOL sucks, Yahoo is constantly disconnecting, and MSN leaves a lot to be desired. Google could clean house with a fast, user-friendly, reliable instant messaging service. I hope it’s already in the pipeline, but if not, please make it happen. Before Google, searching sucked and web-based e-mail sucked. Now, it’s time for instant messaging to stop sucking.
Thank you,
