behind the scenes (at the oscars)

i was watching the press room interviews at oscar.com last night. it’s mostly very boring, but i recommend checking out the kaufman, gondry, bald guy interview. it’s amazing how they wait to start the interview, because everyone wants to hear the best picture announcement. kaufman looks irritated and it only gets worse (or better?). charlie kaufman seems like the kind of guy who understands that these award shows are bullshit. what i’m wondering is why he would go at all. i would think he would just sit at home, watching the ceremony on tv; laughing when his name got called.
