katamari damacy - princei was close. zaphod’s helmet doubles as a lemon juicer. how could i have been so naive?

the hitchhiker’s guide movie was a lot of fun. i think the strongest part was the cast. each actor really fit the part he/she was playing. zaphod played by sam rockwell was over-the-top and zany, which is exactly how i imagined zaphod to be. it’s the little mannerisms that made him so loveable.
ford was played by mos def, and he couldn’t have been better. the sad part, is that there are so many characters and so much going on, it is hard to watch anything other than the action taking place in any given scene. take for instance, a scene where zaphod, ford, and arthur are trying to rescue trillian from the vogon homeworld. the three of them burst through a door and arthur demands the vogons release trillian. as this is taking place, ford is making a karate pose while keeping his towel wrapped around his head as a sort of shield mask. in fact, ford made great use of his towel whenever possible. luckily, there is dvd so we can watch all of ford’s moments in slow motion.

now we come to a little game called katamari damacy. it is quite possibly one of the funniest, craziest, most eccentric games i have ever played. all of this joy and lunacy can be your’s, if you have $20 and a playstation 2.
basically, you are a prince and your father, the king, needs you to make stars because the ones that were in space have been destroyed. your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take a “katamari” (it’s like a gravity ball) and collect as much crap from earth as possible within a given amount of time. so, you roll the ball over stuff and the more stuff that sticks to it, the bigger it gets. the bigger the ball gets, the bigger the items you can roll over. once your ball gets a certain size, you can even collect people! it sounds pretty weird, as most japanese things do, but i assure you it is the most fun i’ve had with a video game in a long time. i just wish the multiplayer part was better. it gets old after a while.

i found these cool katamari damacy desktop wallpapers. inject some life into that boring desktop you have now. you won’t regret it.

zaphodand to think i didn’t even want to go to work today. it was truly great. i got stiffed eight times, i had two hours of agonizing rib pain after a colossal sneeze, and all i could think about was playing this game.

ah, well, today may have sucked, but tomorrow is going to be grand. i’m going to buy that game, i’m going to not think about work, i’m going to take lots of ibuprofen, and i’m going to watch arthur dent and ford prefect hitchhike their way around the galaxy.

zaphod’s helmet doubles as an orange juicer. that helmet is frickin’ awesome. frickin’ awesome, i tell you!

pimp benderi will say this, it feels good to limit my tv consumption. i watch dvds, like movie dvds or buffy dvds. occasionally, i will watch some weird crap like elimidate or blind date over at stemshul’s. it’s fun to do sometimes. ultimately, i feel more productive when i try to use my brain to blog or read a book. it’s tough and i get headaches, but that is how i know it’s working (my brain).

not that i care whether you want to turn off your tv or not, i still thought you should know that it is tv turnoff week.

on a related note, here is a fun tool that is likely to piss some people off. as long as it has the keychain, it’s more of a novelty item than anything. like those stupid laser pointer things that became a fad a few years ago. i hated those punks who would put a red dot on edward norton’s nose during a theatrical movie presentation. totally uncool, man. totally uncool.

popsi limeit’s funny what you find when you’re not even looking for anything. i went to a co-worker’s poker website and after not really seeing anything to mock him about, i decided to check out this starving author site. there’s a short story, a novel, and other writings. i read the short story and found it to be much better than i would have expected. i will be reading the novel very soon. just goes to show, you can’t judge a book by its cover, especially when the book is a person you work with every saturday.

go go3 more days until the hitchhiking begins. baby. this photo gallery is not helping me keep my excitement under control. i think i should go take a cold shower.

here are some observations about a few of the characters…

  • zaphod: his helmet is flippin’ sweet. i will not comment about the lack of a second head until i see the movie. all i’m really wondering is why they had to make him look exactly like chad kroeger (lead chump of nickelback).
  • marvin: he looks so small and yet he is so very big. it’s perfect.
  • trillian: “she could give a dog a bone.”
