what once was the gift of gaytar, is now the cornerstone of the home shopping network. esteban has found his home for selling his crappy guitars while wearing that shitty-ass black plastic hat. and for some unknown reason people seem to trust that he knows about music. i used to think that he was a washed out musician who sold out to keep himself fed, and i never had a problem with that. now i think he isn’t much of a musician at all. he is just a really bad salesman.
today’s special was the bastardized electric guitar called the “midnight legacy”. it even has the ‘e’ shaped headstock. wow, it’s so amazing. some lady called in to tell them that she bought one just to put it on display. yeah, right next to her brain.
and the host was going on and on about how you can’t get that same package for that price anywhere else. maybe you can’t get the esteban package of excellence, but walk into any music shop and they will have a similar guitar with small amp, strings, picks, instruction video, and velcro case for an equivalent price. they usually have them right at the front of the store where dumbasses will find them easier.
a word on tone… esteban was playing the electric model (pictured right) and the sound of it made me cringe. it had this really tinny, hollow sound that is not even cool if he meant it to sound that way. sure, my television speakers aren’t the greatest in the world, but i can get a good enough idea. i heard the bass guitar fine, and it sounded nicely rounded.
who are these people in his backing band? how much do they get paid? and is it enough to be humiliated on national television every single day?
i wish they’d get that steve host back. that guy was the shit. he was a much better actor than these hsn people. he actually tried playing along with esteban, which was very entertaining.
