what we know is that there’s a man in the casket jack goes to see. jack and kate definitely make it off the island. in the future, jack is bearded and estranged. it’s pretty obvious why he wants to get back to the island.
what we don’t know is when they actually get off the island, who’s in the casket, or who kate needs to get back to. i think the man in the casket is locke, because it seems like the episode centers around jack’s guilt for leaving the island. locke was trying to stop him from getting them rescued, and so he would probably feel pretty sad for locke dying.
anything can happen, since i would think there are still 3 seasons before those “flash forwards” become present day. i doubt they get rescued by the boat jack called. but i think shutting down the jammer and calling the boat will set in motion the eventual rescue.
january is too far away. luckily, we’ll have the first three seasons to dissect and learn new things about. every time you get a scrap of new information in current episodes, it usually opens new doors in old episodes.

What if the next season takes place in the future with flashbacks to the island? Revealing way more than we need to know, before any of it could make sense. This perpetual state of confusion they keep us in is what makes the show so good I think. Some people can’t handle not knowing what’s going on so they don’t like the show. Those people are idiots.
they will run all 16 new episodes with no breaks this time. there has been rumor that it might go back to its 9/8c timeslot, because it wasn’t doing as well at 10/9c.
i think they will do as they always do, give a glimpse of something fascinating, and then ignore it. the cliffhanger from season 2 to 3 still hasn’t even been touched upon. the portuguese guys in icelandia have been completely ignored.
season 4 will be mostly about them thinking they are getting rescued. i bet locke and ben will do everything they can to stop the “rescue.” and i also think a few main characters might bite the dust, once they complete their tasks and find redemption, of course.
it could very well be that the fourth season focuses on jacob. who he is, how he got to the island, why he is trapped in a little cottage surrounded by ashy residue.
