allow me to share an exhilarating experience i had about five minutes ago. i read this post on stereogum about a vancouver band called the mohawk lodge. after listening to the mp3s, i wanted to hear more, so i checked my favorite bit torrent sites. the search turned up no results.
i checked itunes to see if they were even listing the album. sure enough, there it was. the release date said july 31, but instead of having the pre-order button, it had the add album button. it seemed odd, since the album is not supposed to be available until next week. i decided to see what would happen if i tried to buy it. i thought maybe they would charge me and then it would get downloaded next tuesday. nope. it started downloading right away.
so now i’m listening to some great music i just found out about seven minutes ago, tried to steal six minutes ago, and ended up buying legitimately five minutes ago. why? because the album was only available through legitimate means, and it was sold without a redundant release date. this is obviously an isolated incident, probably thanks to it being canadian music. still, someone is $8.91 richer because they didn’t make me wait until next tuesday when i would have been able to find it for free. well played.
