andy pipkin

i’m pretty sure that ‘he’ might be a ’she’ because males of this species have blue patches on their underbelly. not knowing when the patches develop, i can’t be sure of the exact gender.

androgyny aside, from this point on, it will be known as “andy pipkin.”

i’ve been feeding her fruit flies and meal worms. she’s definitely grown a bit. i was feeding her meal worms every day until yesterday. she wouldn’t stop eating them and started looking like she needed to pay more for her health insurance. when she was basically spasming on the bottom of her cage, i was reminded of the times ugly kid and i would go get taco bell and krispy kreme and gorge ourselves while watching dvds in shedubeard’s basement. i decided to put her on a diet of one meal worm every other day.

one of the things i have observed is how she behaves when stalking her prey. usually, she pounces and the insect doesn’t have a chance. then sometimes, the predatory show begins and she slowly crawls toward the bug with her tail wagging in delight. i can’t remember if any of my past lizard pets did anything like that. it’s almost as if she is wiggling her tail to distract her prey. i like it because she’s like my little pet dinosaur.

snake plissken

i heard they are going to remake escape from new york. i’ve always liked that movie as a campy 80s actioner. it’s fun and entertaining, something so many current movies have trouble accomplishing. it makes me wonder why they would want to remake a perfectly good movie, using today’s standards of crap storytelling and balls out special effects.

as i was reading the article, i started thinking, what would be so wrong with just making a movie about snake plissken’s back story? i’m talking about the stuff that the characters allude to in the movie. i think that it would make a great movie, except it would probably suck because no one would know how to write it and then you’d get this shitty prequel movie that is essentially the exact same movie as escape from new york.

call it escape from the anus, starring pastor t-bone as the badass action star. plot? he has to get out of the anus before he suffocates. i like it! it’s high concept.

two things are interesting about this video.

  1. the date.
  2. the accurate description of the current situation in iraq.

i keep watching it to see if anything seems fake or out of place. it’s hard to believe that this is real.

baby lizard

i found this little guy sitting on a wall in the backyard of where we were house sitting. i tried to grab him and he tried to get away, but he was too small to be able to move quickly. i put him in a little powerade container with some sand. i fed him about 10 ants. he seemed happy. i think he’s a hatchling of this species, but it’s hard to tell when he’s so young.

once we got home, i put him into a bigger cage. i need to decide if i want to buy a hot rock and keep him in the house or keep him outside and hope he doesn’t freeze to death. the weather is fine now, but there isn’t much sun basking opportunity on our porch facing the west until about 4pm.

the other problem i’m faced with is how long i really want to keep him. my initial idea was to keep him for a while until he’s about adult size, then set him free in the wilderness. but i’m afraid he might die or he would grow too accustomed to being fed, that he wouldn’t go and find his own food once reintroduced to the wild. and feeding him is a pain in the ass, because foraging for insects is not my favorite thing to do. especially the size insects he currently requires. when i find something, it dies in my fingers because it’s so damn small. i wish i could just go pick something up at a reptile fast food restaurant. (you know, for convenience sake.)

writing class concluded yesterday. spending some much needed relaxation time house/dog sitting for some people we don’t know. the lizards in the backyard elude me at every turn, but i stole one of their eggs.

today, i felt like watching my favorite torturetainment (fox news). after all, it has been a long while since i heard any news about the new york times aligning itself with terrorists. too long. and the 2 minutes hate commenced!

then, when i felt my patriot batteries were just about recharged, a segment about obese people came on and the bafflement ensued. some crazy lady presented her case about how overweight workers should pay more for their health insurance. shape up or pay up. even more amazing was how the interviewer remained somewhat objective.

singling people out for their weight and making them “weigh-in” at work suggests discriminatory behaviour. if anything, they shouldn’t have to pay more, they should have to pay less. it’s not their fault that mcdonald’s restaurants exist on every street corner or that the primary ingredients in most foods consist of sugar or sodium. where’s the outrage about the shit they put in our food? sometimes i just want to choke on a fish bone.
