one of the things that annoys me about our daisy is how she chews on everything. it’s selective chewing. she doesn’t just bite down on any old thing. she really likes the ugly kid flavor when he leaves shirts over here or she finds one of his rockstar arm bands lying around. she also enjoys the taste of freshly worn socks or underoos.
but the most recent item she just had to taste was our dvd remote control. she already shredded the battery covering a couple months ago during the great daisy disaster of 2007 (which included metal shavings that once were cans—she hates those cans).
yesterday, i went to the other room to check my e-mail and within 2 minutes i heard a crunching sound. when i returned to the couch she was biting down on the upper half of the remote. i grabbed it and tried it, but it didn’t work. when i took it apart, i found the circuit board to be cracked. we went out and got a great new universal remote that controls everything and it was only $20. the sucky part is that it doesn’t control the channel up/down on the dvd recorder, so there is no way to channel surf.
what’s most frustrating is that we got her to stop chewing on shoes and sandals. that part was easy, but when it comes to pillows, remotes, couches, and such, it seems like it’s pretty much impossible. she is very sneaky and i have no way of stopping her as she’s thinking about these chewings unless i watch her constantly and basically go into spy mode when i make her think i’m leaving the room. i guess i just have to put on my 007 pants and stop this chewing before it goes any further.

Although this hasn’t been much of an issue with Luna, a few months ago we caught her chewing apart some of the kids plastic toys. I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of dog toys. Whenever we would catch her going for something that was not hers she would get “in trouble” and then we would immediately follow it up by giving her something from her toy stash that she was allowed to have and change our tone of voice to being playful. Now she never even looks twice at the kids stuff – she goes right for her basket ‘o goodies.
This worked for us although Daisy sounds much feistier than Luna. But, hey, it’s an idea. Good luck getting into your 007 pants.
Screw Bond, you need Spy Donkey.
it’s because of all of your nervous energy. It’s making Daisy jittery.
