last night, after work, i went to pick up lady friend and we were going to do some grocery shopping. less than a mile from lady friend’s work, my car started acting funny. i was pressing the gas pedal and it was slowing down. my oil light came on then all the lights came on and the power steering went out. i quickly pulled into a nearby parking lot and called aaa. i’m glad i just got a aaa membership last week. although, i wasn’t feeling particularly lucky at that moment.
well, the tow truck guy came in less than 15 minutes and suggested we tow it to a place closer to where we live and that way he could drop us off. he even offered to do it without charging the extra miles since my aaa membership only covers 5 miles. at that point, i was starting to feel a little luckier.
then today, i got the news that the timing belt snapped and it would cost $644 to replace. it’s one of those things where it was more than i wanted to spend, considering i could probably do it myself for much cheaper, but i don’t know that much about timing belts and being that this is our only transportation, we’re kinda screwed. i really need to buy that $1200 1990 corolla, so that we have a backup in case something happens. also, i want to do work on the camry, but since it’s our only car, i feel less confident, because if i mess something up, then we don’t have a car.
