yesterday, i was done messing with the furnace fixing and went inside to watch some “sat-dish” (i just made that up). i was flipping around, hoping hbo would be on, but it wasn’t and then i noticed that none of our regular channels were working either. every screen said: “searching for signal.”

crap. my first thought was that some marauding assclown stole our dish. nope, it was still on the wall. then i noticed some white cable exposed in the area where i buried it underground. all i thought was: “oh no, daisy strikes again!”

sure enough, that cable was nicely chewed into. dug up and munched on, daisy style. rather than calling a satellite repair person and waiting 5 days for someone to repair it, we went to harbor freight and bought a cable stripper and end fitting tool. within 20 minutes, i had the chewed part cut out and reconnected. nice try, daisy.

damn, it feels good to be a gangster.

fall is here with a little colder weather. it’s now in the brisk upper 70s during the day and the 40s-50s at night. brrrrr! i almost thought about wearing socks yesterday.

can anyone tell me why “beverly hills chihuahua” is #1 at the box office for the second week? you’d think with the economy being what it is, people wouldn’t have enough money to go see crappy movies.

does anyone else find it strange that the economy took a major nose dive right before the election? i don’t want to think that it’s anything more than coincidence, but i’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to manipulate a populace. i’m just being cynical. but i do think that the media hype is ridiculous. wake me up when the depression hits, otherwise i don’t give a rip about what the dow jones is doing.

this brings me to the election. who’s going to win? since the economy has become the hot button topic, we can surmise that obama will win this election. if history repeats itself, and it often does, then it is the assumption that obama will win like clinton did 16 years ago. however, before clinton won, republicans were in office for 12 years, so that would suggest that mccain is destined to win. hmm. that is pretty inconclusive. if we are going simply on charisma, obama has it licked. he is definitely more charismatic than mccain, and both “w” and clinton were significantly helped by their charisma. of course, there is always the wild card possibility (can you say florida?). so there is really no way of knowing who will win. i have a feeling that obama will win the popular vote, but lose the electoral vote.

moving into our new home took about a week. last weekend (including monday) was when we did the bulk of the move. then we spent the rest of this past week recovering. we still don’t have everything unpacked and probably won’t for a good time.

we did manage to get a fridge and stove, so that we can keep things cold and then cook them. oh, and of course there was the satellite dish. oh my, i had forgotten how great it is. don’t get me wrong, i still hate tv, but now i have the best tv to hate. it’s necessary to have the best, otherwise where would my contempt go?

one thing i don’t like about owning a home is the telemarketers. yes, i need to put our name on the opt out list. and yes, it is partly our own damn fault for going to that infernal “home show” (marketing scheme) and signing up for every “drawing” (calling list) there was. we are going to go to a bigger “home show” next weekend and we are not signing up for any “drawings.” i already have all my responses ready: “i don’t win things.” “they said i wouldn’t get called last time and they lied.” “i pooped a hammer.”

and of course, what would owning a home be like without some upkeep? our furnace needs a new valve, our toilets need new guts, our outlets need the third ground prong, and our new fridge needs water for ice.

but none of that matters, because as teresa’s dad pointed out: all you really need is the lime tree in the backyard. check.
