a while back, dr pepper said they’d give everyone in america a free dr pepper if guns n’ roses released “chinese democracy” by the end of the year.

the album came out yesterday, and dr pepper said they’d issue coupons to everyone who signed up for them on their site yesterday. only problem is that the site was decimated by hordes of people wanting free soda.

so they extended the offer to 6pm today. and their site is still beyond toast.

how do you offer something free like this and not be ready for it? easy, it’s all part of the plan. if i were a company, i would offer free stuff and then make it impossible to obtain said free items. in fact, it’s what we are already accustomed to. when companies do contests and promotions, it is a sham. they’re not going to give you anything that is worth anything. they are doing it to make you buy their products.

this thing has been a joke from the beginning. this is how it works: you register on the dr pepper site (assuming you’re somehow able to penetrate their ailing server), and they mail you a coupon in 4-6 weeks that has to be used by february 28. so you have a registration process that doesn’t work thanks to technological inadequacies, you have a delivery system (postal service) that is not always the most reliable, and you have a very small window of redemption.

if they weren’t total douches, they would have upgraded their server and made the coupon printable. they would have saved the postage. oh, but they wouldn’t have saved postage because they are only going to be sending 5 of these coupons to the people who logged on at 5 am.

it’s starting to get chilly here and what better way to welcome the cold but by building a backyard fire pit.

we’re still in the planning stages. we’ve scouted the location and now it’s down to what materials to make it out of. we’re probably going to go cheap and just use random stuff in our backyard left by previous owners. maybe we’ll go to home depot for supplies, but i’d rather use my brain to come up with something spectacularly free.

i hope to be having fire in 6-4 days.

last night was truly exciting. i was actually excited about politics again. i can’t remember the last time i wasn’t completely apathetic toward this pathetic system we call democracy. it still boggles my mind that 62% of voter turnout is considered “high.” is it really that difficult to go scribble on a paper for 5 minutes?

i really liked mccain’s concession speech. in fact, i think that if he would have had that much integrity throughout his campaign, he would have had a much better chance. that and if he picked a serious running mate.

i’m anxious to begin these next four years. finally, we will have a president with a fully functioning brain.

2nd epoxy failed. super glue held for about 36 hours, then failed. not much can be done.

i got out my prescription from february and went to costco. i should have new glasses in about two weeks. and they are the least expensive glasses i have ever purchased. i’m talking 3-4 times less expensive. it was like i had vision insurance or something. costco is the shit.

so when i got home, i applied online to work in the costco tire center.

they’re saying on cnn that this could be the biggest election since 1908. and if the turnout is over 66%, it will be.

that’s pretty sad when only 66% cared enough to go and vote back in 1908 and now it’s far less than that. i’m sure many voters are disenfranchised and most times i don’t disagree with them. when things like the florida bungle of ‘00 happen, it’s kinda hard to convince yourself that your vote matters and that it will actually be counted. never mind the fact that our only two choices are often moderately retarded.

this time is different, though. so do yourself a favor and go make some history.
