how now brown cow?

i woke up this morning and turned on my computer. i waited. normal screens, then “blah blah windows didn’t shut down properly blah blah boot into safe mode or regular mode.” so i try regular mode. wait some more. it cycles back to “blah blah windows didn’t shut down…” so i try safe mode. wait again. cycles back to “blah blah…” by this time i’m getting frustrated and frightened that my computer is trashed and all my data is lost (because i don’t back up my six year-old hard drive – dumbass). i shut it down and decide to not deal with it in the couple hours i have before work. i go to work. i talk to the resident geek guy who tells me how to repair my install without losing my data, if and only if it is software/operating system related and not hardware problems. i get home from work and go to work on my pc. after doing the repair all is well. it seems that because windows sucks so much, it got itself into some sort of infinite restart loop. now, i am trying to update my files so i don’t get hammered with viruses and the like, since my system files have reverted back to six years ago, when security was – shall we say – a little bit more lax than today.
